Continuing Education for Counselors and Therapists
Goal: This course is designed to inform clinicians of other options for their alcoholic clients, which will increase the odds of overall recovery.
C31 How to Quit Drinking Without AA | 13 hour
To educate counselors to a variety of non-spiritual based approaches to recovery for alcoholism. AA has been the automatic recovery made available to alcoholics and although successful it still has not proved to be the silver bullet. Upon completion of the course participants will be better able to assess the clients needs and make a more informed referral.
Now You Can Take Control of Your Own Recovery Process
Alcoholics Anonymous is not the only answer or even the best answer for many people. In fact, seven of every eight people who start AA's 12-step program abandon it within three years. Fortuanately, there are more effective ways to quit drinking—proven methods that will help you be successful on your own terms.
Inside this life-affirming book is the new beginning you're looking for. Certified addictions counselor and 16-year recovering alcoholic Jerry Dorsman offers more than 100 proven techniques to gain control of your recovery. "A thorough approach backed with practical guidelines and techniques."—Addiction and Recovery Magazine
"The right blend of substance and simplicity. Bubbling with resources."—Natural Health magazine
Included with this course is the textbook written by Jerry Dorsman. Jerry developed a successful addiction treatment program through extensive research. He began researching at a time when he himself was recovering from alcohol and drug addictions. During a period of fourteen years, he uncovered dozens of techniques that had been proven effective for people who were trying to break addictions and reclaim their lives.
His research culminated in 1991 with the publication of his first book, How to Quit Drinking Without AA. After its release by New Dawn Publishing, this book quickly became a top-selling recovery title. In 1994, Jerry wrote a revised edition that was published by Prima Publishing Company. This edition was acquired in 2002 by Random House which has remained the publisher ever since.
In 2006, How to Quit Drinking Without AA reached a publishing milestone. It surpassed 100,000 copies in sales. Also there have been two foreign language editions of this self-help guide, one in Spanish (1993) and one in Russian (1997).
